The RNRMMC is the representative body for mountaineering within the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. The primary aim is to foster recreational mountaineering within the Royal Navy & Royal Marines. The club represents the views of RN & RM mountaineers to the British Mountaineering Council, the Mountaineering Council of Scotland and the Joint Services Mountaineering Committee. Full membership is open to both serving and retired members of the RN, RM, RNR, RMR and associated Naval Services. Associate membership is open to the immediate family of full members and other such individuals as the Committee may decide.
The RNRMMC runs a series of meets throughout the UK every year and groups of members also arrange informal climbing trips. These meets cover the full spectrum of mountaineering interests from Hill Walking to Rock and Snow and Ice Climbing.
For two weeks of every year Club members take part in the Joint Services Alpine Meet in either France, Italy or Switzerland. Here alpine novices have the opportunity to be introduced to the more serious pleasures of Alpine climbing by fully qualified Alpine guides and the more experienced members of the RNRMMC. There is usually an annual alpine Ski-Mountaineering expedition.
Every year RNRMMC members are involved in Club or Joint Services climbing and trekking expeditions all over the world. Since 1990 destinations outside of Europe have included, Alaska, Antarctica, Argentina, Bolivia, California, Ecuador, India, Iceland, Kenya, Nepal, Norway, Pakistan, Peru and Tanzania. In 2003 club member Dave Pearce stood on the summit of Mount Everest on a RNRMMC Expedition! |
