A Royal Navy/Royal Marine climbing expedition to Peru will take place from 25 August – 15 September 2007. The main object of the expedition is to climb two peaks in the Cordillera Blanca - Yanapaccha (5,460m) and Chopicalqui (6,354m).
The Cordillera Blanca provides an excellent location to introduce novice climbers to mountaineering with benign weather providing a safe environment for novices to attempt their first high altitude climb. Although not particularly technical, the two mountains in the exped will require considerable effort, stamina, commitment and teamwork. Previous mountaineering experience or qualifications are not a pre-requisite; candidates will be selected on merit; with particular emphasis placed on enthusiasm and commitment.
All successful applicants will be expected to attend a training weekend in Bavaria (10-13 May 2007) and will also have to pay a personal contribution of £800, payable in installments.
