Some of the items on the site are now only available to registered members, such as current newsletters or anything that contains contact information or time and place of planned events. To access these pages you must first be a registered member and have a valid username and password available by emailing the Webmaster from a MOD email account or use the generic username and password that is published in the newsletter and is valid for the period of that newsletter.

On the move? Keep your contact details current online
We move around quite a bit in this job, so keeping in touch can be a challenge the club needs current contact information so we can send out the Newsletters and the Annual Bulletin. So to make it easer for members to keep us informed we have added an online update form for the membership database. (No membership information is stored on or is accessible via the internet. The form simply emails the information to the Membership Secretary )

What are the benefits of joining the RNRMMC ?

1. Links with other climbers. The RNRMMC is the ideal forum for meeting other climbers from the RN and the other two services.

2. Participation in Climbing Meets & Expeditions. The following meets and expeditions are open to RNRMMC members.

a. RNRMMC Meets.
b. Joint Services UK Meets.
c. Annual Joint Service Alpine Meet.
d. Joint Service Expeditions.

There are many meets throughout the year and all are advertised in the Annual Bulletin and Newsletters

3. Grants. The RNRMMC encourages and assists its members to plan expeditions at unit level and for Joint Service Participation. To help offset the personal expense of such expeditions the club will consider making a grant to any member who is a member of an expedition. The amount of the grant varies and is based on merit, the personal financial contribution and the mountaineering content of the expedition.

4. Affiliation to the British Mountaineering Council. The RNRMMC is one of the largest clubs affiliated to the British Mountaineering Council. Affiliation gives the following benefits:

a. £2,000,000 third party liability insurance worldwide.
b. Reciprocal rights card for discounts in Alpine huts.
c. Over 100 mountain huts in Great Britain.
d. Cheap mountaineering rescue insurance.
e. Access to the Mountain Leader Training Board (MTLB) schemes.

5. Annual Bulletin. A colour magazine containing articles and photographs of expeditions involving club members; reports on Club Meets and the Joint Service Alpine Meet and details of forthcoming events.

6. Regular Newsletter . The Annual Bulletin is supplemented by a Newsletter that is published four times a year to keep members in touch with what is going on within the RNRMMC.

7. Advice. The RNRMMC has a wealth of mountaineering knowledge and is willing to give advice on all aspects of mountaineering. A list of committee members and others willing to give advice is available from the Honorary Secretary.

Gift Aid

You may be aware that the RNRMMC, as a Service Sports Club, enjoys charitable status. This means that your annual subscription can be treated as Gift Aid and, if you are a UK taxpayer and make a Gift Aid Declaration, the Inland Revenue will pay to the Club a sum equal to 28% of your subscription.

What is in it for the Club? The Club can claim 28% of subscriptions paid by members declaring their subscriptions as Gift Aid. This means an extra £3.64 for each £13.00 subscription gifted to the Club. This is a very useful source of income that we can plough straight back into the business of the Club - supporting mountain activity throughout the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. Under the new Gift Aid scheme, donations made since April 2000 can be treated as Gift Aid so you can backdate your declaration and we can claim for additional years.

What is in it for you? Gift Aid costs you nothing, but as a Club Member, there is an immediate benefit from an increase in Club funds which will hopefully help offset the need for further rises in subscription fees in the immediate future. Additionally, if you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can personally claim tax relief based on the difference between the basic and higher rates. For example, if you pay tax at 40%, and pay a subscription of £13.00, we can receive the £3.64 (28%) from the taxman, making a total of £16.64 (called the gross donation). You can claim relief for 18% of this, which will reduce your tax bill by £2.34 - why look a gift horse in the mouth?

How do you make a Gift Aid Declaration? Easy - just complete a declaration form and send it to the Treasurer. You only need apply once and the Club can continue to collect Gift Aid each year until you cancel your declaration or leave the Club.

How do you cancel your declaration? Just inform the Treasurer, preferably in writing.

Do you have to do anything else? In order to claim Gift Aid, the Club does need your current address - please keep the club informed of your whereabouts. One change of details return is all that is needed to ensure that you continue to receive newsletters and bulletins - and we continue to benefit from Gift Aid.

Please print and sign the linked form declaring your subscription as Gift Aid - you have nothing to lose and our Club can only benefit!

Need more information? For the IT minded, full details are available on the Inland Revenue website at www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk or you can ask the Treasurer.
